Day 01 Sunday June 12 Miami
Ready to go! Departure on your connecting flights to Israel. (not included)
Day 02 Monday June 13 Arrival in Israel - Tel Aviv
Arrival to Ben Gurion Airport. Welcome Home to the land of Israel! Transfer to Tel Aviv, which means "Hill of Spring" - a beacon of hope and renewal to Jewish people everywhere. What an enormous feeling of pride - this bustling city was built with blood, sweat and tears out of desolate sand dunes. It is hard to imagine that the entire country is only 63 years old! Program pending your arrival schedule. Check in at your hotel upon arrival. Welcome Dinner. Renaissance Hotel, Tel Aviv.
Day 03 Tuesday June 14 Tel Aviv
Full Israeli Breakfast. The beginning: Visit the Independence Hall, where Israel's Declaration of Independence was signed in 1948! Let the Hatikvah be the song that inspires you for the days ahead. Later, experience Israel's most dynamic city. First, forget about Publix as you stroll through the Carmel "Shuk," visit the neighborhoods of Neve Zedek, Nahalat Binyamin and Yafo, and stop at the Rabin Square en route. Then, gain insight into the early struggle of Israel as you tour the Ayalon Institute, the clandestine ammunition factory founded in 1945, right under the noses of the British. Later in the afternoon, return to the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Perhaps you may choose to relax at the beach and mingle with Israelis as evening falls. Renaissance Hotel, Tel Aviv.
Day 04 Wednesday June 15
Tel Aviv - Sde Boker - Mizpe Ramon
Full Israeli Breakfast. Say good bye to the pulsing city and get into the spirit of Israel's first Prime Minister, Ben Gurion. Above all, Ben Gurion understood that Israel would have to befriend the desert and make it fertile to exist. As he said: "Why does a mother love her children so? Because they are her creation. Why does the Jew feel an affinity with Israel? Because everything here must still be accomplished. It depends only on him to participate in this privileged act of creation. The trees at Sde Boker speak to me differently than do the trees planted elsewhere. Not only because I participated in their planting and in their maintenance, but also because they are a gift of man to nature and a gift of the Jews to the compost of their culture." Visit Ben Gurion's simple house at Sde Boker, so symbolic of the man himself. Continue to the Ramon Crater and check in at the hotel at Mizpe Ramon. Later, board sturdy jeep 4x4s, and begin a journey into the largest crater in the Negev. Here, you will get introduced to the magic of the desert, its geology, formations, cultures and life. Next, exchange the jeeps for camels and ride into the night and to the "Bedouin Camp," where a traditional "Hafla"- style evening awaits you. Afterward, return to the hotel. Ramon Inn, Mizpe Ramon (Junior Suites).
Day 05 Thursday June 16 Masada - Ein Gedi - Jerusalem
Full Israeli Breakfast. This morning, depart for the Dead Sea via some of the most scenic roads in the Negev. After arriving at the Dead Sea shores, visit Masada, one of the most touching sites in our history. Ascend by cable car or choose to make the walk up the winding trail. Once on top of Masada, learn the details about the final, courageous standoff of a small group of Jewish zealots against the cruel domination of Rome. Descend for a short drive to Ein Gedi - a unique oasis in the land of the desert, where you will experience a float in the salty waters of the Dead Sea (towels and lockers are provided). Later, enter the small canyon to arrive at the falls of fresh, cool water and get a deserved break from the heat. Refreshed, drive along the shores to Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. This is the last stop before you enter Jerusalem, symbolically after crossing the desert. Upon arrival in Jerusalem, stop at Mt. Scopus for a touching, panoramic view of the city of our dreams. Here, say the blessing of "Shehecheyanu," thanking God for bringing us to this time and place. After check in at the hotel, it is your time to celebrate being in this city of all cities. Mt Zion Hotel (Citadel rooms).
Day 06 Friday June 17 Jerusalem - Guvrin/Latrun -Jerusalem
Full Israeli Breakfast. depart for Guvrin to participate in a unique archaeological program. You will learn about historic times as well as techniques of digging, sifting and item examination. A short drive away, visit the Latrun Tank Museum, where you come to terms with the survival of Israel as expressed through the tanks in the exhibition. En route back to Jerusalem, visit the small but beautiful Avshalom Stalactite Cave. Later, drive to the busy market, Mahane Yehuda, home to generations of devout Jews, living much as our ancestors did in pre-Holocaust Europe - and as many Chasidim around the world continue to live today. It is Friday, and the market is busy as Jerusalem prepares for Shabbat. Return to the hotel with time to rest. Later, transfer back to the Kotel to welcome Shabbat in the place where all prayers are heard. Return to the hotel for Kabbalat Shabbat Dinner, full of all the joy that Shabbat in Jerusalem can bring. Mt Zion Hotel (Citadel rooms).
Day 07 Saturday June 18 Jerusalem
Full Israeli Breakfast. Today is at leisure to enjoy the Shabbat peace in this holy city. It is your chance to sense the power and meaning of the Sabbath. Join services in one of Jerusalem's many synagogues, or experience the Kotel on this special day. You can also relax by the pool or walk in the nearby neighborhoods of Yemin Moshe, the Montefiore Windmill, Mishkenot Sha'ananim and the Liberty Bell Garden. If you want to visit the Christian Sites in Jerusalem, you can easily reach them on foot from the hotel. As night falls, enjoy a lively evening atmosphere with the Israelis as they celebrate the end of Shabbat. Mt Zion Hotel (Citadel rooms).
Day 08 Sunday June 19 Jerusalem
Full Israeli Breakfast. This morning, visit Yad Vashem, the profoundly moving museum of the Holocaust, and of the Righteous Gentiles who did all they could to save Jewish lives. The exhibition is now very different from the one of the past and is today a very dramatic place to visit. Later, pay tribute to our fallen Jewish soldiers at nearby Mt. Herzl cemetery (where Herzl and Rabin are buried). Continue, via the Knesset and the Grand Menorah, to the Israel Museum where the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Holyland model are housed. Remainder of the afternoon at leisure. In the evening, another special treat is waiting. Begin with a special Middle Eastern Dinner, followed by an evening tour of the illuminated Jerusalem, including a visit to the Rabbinical Tunnel. Mt Zion Hotel (Citadel rooms).
Day 09 Monday June 20 Jerusalem
Full Israeli Breakfast. Today, we celebrate our youth! The day begins with a moving Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony at the Southern Wall. Enter the Dung Gate to reach our beloved Kotel and from there we will enter the Davidson Center. After the ceremony visit the center and learn about the Temple Mount before its destruction. The center's advanced computers allows for a virtual reality experience of the days of the past. Next, visit the City of David including the Hezekiah's tunnel. Continue on foot through the Jewish Quarter and the Roman Cardo, now a chic shopping arcade. Remainder of the day at leisure. Mt Zion Hotel (Citadel rooms).
Day 10 Tuesday June 21 Jerusalem - Galilee
Full Israeli Breakfast. Time to say goodbye to Jerusalem as you drive towards the northern part of the country. Visit one of the most significant excavations in Israel at Beit She'an. The site features remains of a large amphitheater, a Byzantine era colonnaded street, ritual baths, a pottery workshop, basilica and a Roman temple. A short drive away, relax at the mineral-rich natural pools at Sachne, where healthful waters are fed continuously by an underground system. Whether you swim, jump or play in the water, it is all fun. Or maybe just retreat to the tree grown shady spots and watch the beautiful setting. In the afternoon, visit the mystical town of Tzfat. Tour its historic, yet active, synagogues and enjoy free time in the Artists' Quarter. Continue to the hotel at the Kibbutz Lavi, famed for its fine production of furniture (including synagogue refurbishing). In the evening, depart for Tiberias for a Chinese Dinner and an evening of fun. Kibbutz Lavi (Hod Wing).
