    Extended weekend in Iceland
    Fire & Ice

If you ever fantasized about an adventurous encounter with nature, Iceland -- only a few hours away -- is not to be overlooked. Hike in solitude, see some of the world’s most rugged landscapes (The Apollo crews trained here for moon missions), marvel at pale blue glaciers and soak in vast, steaming natural pools. Monster-trucks take you off-road, across mountains and through rivers in the land of Fire and Ice. You will also encounter Icelandic culture in Reykjavik, one of the world’s coolest cities.

This trip is ideal as an extended weekend break or for a bachelor/bachelorette celebration.

Day 1 Departure from the USA
Departure on Iceland Air overnight flight to Iceland. Remember to catch some sleep during the flight.

    Day 2 Reykjavik - Landmannalaugar
Arrival Iceland – Keflavik Airport early morning. Upon arrival, you are greeted by a Super Truck as well as by your Eskimos Adventure Guide/Driver, who will accompany you throughout your stay. Head directly to the Thingvellir National Park, where the Vikings had the world’s first parliament. Breakfast will be served at the Valhöll hotel in the heart of the park, followed by a tour briefing. After Breakfast, head to Laugarvatn, to enjoy unwinding in the natural hot spring steam sauna. Then, off to the breathtaking waterfall Gullfoss, followed by a visit to the world-famous Geyser Hot Spring area. Lunch at the Geyser center. Afterwards, head to the famous Hekla Volcano. You will drive up the volcano and hike in the area. On a good day the view is magnificent - at times you can see seven glaciers. Hekla, at an impressive height of 1491 meters, has been active for centuries. It has erupted four times in the 20th century, the last time in 1991. From Hekla, head to a uniquely majestic spot, Landmannalaugar, situated in a valley between colorful, steep mountains and the high, dark edge of a rhyolite lava field. Many hot and cold springs provide delightful options for bathing. The surroundings are colorful and magnificent: mountains split with gullies and gorges, one of which, the Jokulgil, is about 13 km long. It is popular to bathe in the unique natural hot pool there. Spend the night under the stars in mountain huts. Dinner, al fresco, will be prepared for you by your Guide.

    Day 3 Landmannalaugar - Thorsmork
After breakfast, begin the day by a short hike in the area. Then, drive the famous mountain road Fjallabak, crossing many rivers as you head to the Myrdalsjökull glacier. The Myrdalsjokull (1480m) is the fourth largest glacier, with an area of about 590 km². It is volcanically active, and erupted very powerfully in 1918. Experience a Snowmobile ride on the glacier. From the glacier, head to Skogar and lunch. Later drive up to Fimmvörðháls where you begin an adventurous hike that will take you over glaciers, barren lava fields, and past several thundering waterfalls, before arriving to the wilderness of Tórsmörk, the most indisputably beautiful area in Iceland, Torsmörk ("The Woods of Thor"). Torsmörk’s green slopes, blanketed in wildflowers, lie hidden from the rest of the world, between the Mýrdalsjökull, Eyjafjallajökull and Tindfjöll glaciers, and surrounded by dark, mysterious woodlands. Only native Icelanders, saga-questers, and privileged travelers have entered this place. Spend the night in a hut in Thorsmork valley. Tonight help you Guide prepare an Icelandic tradition: Barbecue Dinner under the stars, the way the natives do it - with plenty of the best tasting lamb you ever tried.

    Day 4 Thorsmork - Reykjavik
Early morning wake up. After breakfast, depart Thorsmork and head to the Gigjokull glacier lagoon for a hike on our way to the rafting area. Rafting on Markarfljot River takes place on a 12 km section of the river, from Einhyrningi (meaning Unicorn), down towards Thorolfsfell. Surroundings at Markarfljot are beautiful and fascinating. Raft through plenty of medium-sized waves and rapids. (Markarfljot is graded 3+). Later, head for one of the best canyoning trips in Iceland. The canyon is simply awesome, with pristine, clear, spring water, and lush greenery. This is an experience you will never forget. After a hearthy hot shower, it is time to drive Towards Iceland’s capital - Reykjavík. Upon arrival, check-in at your centrally located hotel with time to rest and refresh after the days in Iceland’s majestic and natural beauty. The evening is now yours and it might be time to try a few of Iceland’s beers before the morning arrive.

Day 5 Reykjavik - Blue Lagoon - USA
Depart the hotel before noon and head for the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is a unique geothermal spa, where guests rejuvenate in natural thermal waters. A visit to the Blue Lagoon is an exciting and memorable experience, whether you choose to indulge in these waters in the mid-Winter or in mid-Summer. Enjoy the Spa, whose facilities include modern changing rooms and showers, indoor and outdoor Blue Lagoon pools, a geothermal beach, lava caves, and silica mud (with therapeutic value to sufferers of skin ailments). In addition to bathing in the lagoon, guests can enjoy a unique, geothermal steam bath. Later, head to the airport, inspired, relaxed and invigorated, for your trip back to the USA.
